Community Bowen is a program designed for out-of-pocket pay (i.e., not using insurance) and is intended to make quality care affordable for those who don't have insurance or who have high deductibles. This means you have the freedom to choose when to schedule a session for yourself (see below link to schedule). If you would like to use your health insurance, please contact our clinic directly.
The Bowen modality lends itself well to being a multiple-client modality due to the wait periods. Under an experienced practitioner, Bowen Therapy can be just as effective in a group setting as well as a one-on-one session.
Bowen Therapy is a healing modality developed around the 1970’s by the late Tom Bowen of Australia. Bowen Therapy is based off of osteopathic, chiropractic and acupuncture concepts. Basically, Bowen Therapy heals by stimulating one’s Central Nervous System to readjust for improved musculoskeletal alignment and circulation (including blood, lymph and nerve conduction) ,. Structural Medicine concepts are also applied, particularly Myofascial Length Testing and body positioning for improved response to Bowen Therapy. During treatment, each individual will be positioned according to their assessment results. Then, an individualized series of Bowen moves will be performed throughout the session. Between these series of moves, each individual will be given time to respond to the moves before the next set. The response times (AKA “waits”) are important to allow a person to go into the Parasympathetic Nervous System (PNS) state. This is commonly known as the “rest & digest” state, but I would also include “heal & sleep” as another key component of being in the PNS mode. As the body is in the PNS mode, myofascial holding patterns can begin to balance out along with improvement of overall circulation. Individuals can notice responses right away or even days after a treatment. Since the treatment puts a person into the PNS state, a sense of relaxation is usually what people notice first.
A one-on-one treatment with our practitioners is $150/hr. However with Community Bowen, we are able to lower the cost to half of that for a $75 session.
The treating therapist for our Community Bowen program is Jennifer Wong, OTR/L, SMS, PBP.
