Why would an orthopedic medical practice weave Yoga into it’s treatment offerings to our patients and why on earth would we be offering a Yoga Teacher Training? A note from Molly. "After treating patients and performing manual work on their bodies this is a nutshell of what I’ve learned: Nearly everybody ( everybody ) is TIGHT! As in non-flexible. As in fascia that is out of balance either being too strong (shortened) or too weak, whereby lending to aches and pains. A structure that is not pliable and flexible is prone to get to the tipping point where the body can no longer withstand the functional activities it is being asked to perform. That’s where Yoga comes in. It can be both a preventative or curative avenue to bring the body back into alignment while simultaneously calming the nervous system. Another thing I’ve seen is that nearly all of my patient population inhabit bodies which hold onto stress. It’s rare that I come across a person who tells me that they have no stress. It’s part of life and some folks manage it better than others. I’ve seen that high stress levels certainly parallel pain in the body. Yoga is such a powerful tool for lowering stress, breathing within the full rib cage, accessing the diaphragm and being more mindful as we FUNCTION. If everyone did Yoga, I think I’d be out of a job. A balanced mind and body makes for a structure that is free of pain. I see this ratio play itself out in clinical practice every day."
